My mother was married to my father for 61 years and never took her wedding band off. Can we bury it with her or do we have to take it off before burial?

You can do either one. It might feel wrong for you to take it off after all these years but, on the other hand, someone in the family will treasure it being passed on to them for generations to come. It is entirely your choice.
