Obituary of Erich J. Hesse

His family includes his wife: Mary of Iowa City: two daughters: Kathleen Bugg and Karen and husband Harold Warner all of Iowa City: five grandchildren, Nicole and husband Andy Moel, Rochelle Richard, Ericha, Jeremy and Olivia Warner: two great- grandchildren: Jade Gravelin and Taylor Moel: one brother Seigfried Hesse of Colorado: Mother in-law Lillian Sheeley of Waterloo: two brothers in-law Donald and Wife Dorothy Sheeley of Omaha and Douglas and wife Cathy Sheeley of Waterloo along with numerous nieces and nephews. His parents and father-in-law C.W. Sheeley preceded him in death. Erich Jacob Hesse was born on August 14, 1927 in Waterloo, Iowa the son of Adolph and Caroline Skibba Hesse. He graduated from Waterloo West High School and severed his country in the U.S. Navy. On September 11, 1949, he married Mary Sheeley in Waterloo, they moved to Iowa City in 1963. He owned and operated Hesse and Associates a painting company in which he took great pride. He was a member of V.F.W. Post 3949 in Iowa City where he served as secretary and was an active member for many years. Erich enjoyed reading, gardening, bowling and playing cards especially cribbage. His family will always remember his willingness to help and to give back time and energy to the community. Among the many things he did, were repainting the Jet at the entrance at the Iowa City Airport and helping with the Art Festival and Community Theater. He will be remembered for never having met a stranger or holding a grudge. Memorial donations in Erich’s name may be given to Iowa City Hospice.
