Obituary of Marilyn J Paul

Marilyn J. Paul, 80, of Coralville, passed away Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at Windmill Manor Care Center. A memorial service will be held 3 p.m., Saturday, May 21st at the Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City with a time of reception and fellowship immediately following. Marilyn J. “Joann” Paul was born September 18, 1935, near Gilman, Iowa; daughter of Charles A. and Martha (McGrew) Dougherty. She graduated from Gilman High with the class of ’54 and in 1956 married David R. Paul, days before he shipped out to Germany. Joann graduated from Coe College with a Bachelors in Nursing and worked as a pediatric nurse for several years. She enjoyed her time at Mary Greeley Medical Center and the McFarland Clinic in Ames. Her family includes her children Susan Cook and her husband, Joe of Coralville and Steve Paul and his wife, Paula Mann of Northfield, MN; two grandchildren, Ryan and Erin Cook and her siblings, Robert ‘Merle’ Dougherty of Fountain Valley, CA and Don Dougherty of Minnetonka, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, David; brothers, Richard and Gene Dougherty and great-aunt, Laura McGrew Frankforth.
