Obituary of Allen Roger Schwarz

Allen R. Schwarz, 83, of Iowa City, passed away on Tuesday, May 17, 2016, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. He was born May 29, 1932 on his parent’s farm at rural route 2 near Oelwein, to Frederick Schwarz and Emma Lehmkuhl Schwarz. Allen was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church in Westgate and graduated from Maynard High School in 1949. Allen was united in marriage to Evelyn Payton on November 20, 1951, at the First Presbyterian Church in Oelwein, IA. Allen worked for 41 years for the Chicago Rock Island, Wisconsin Southern and Iowa Interstate as a General Road Master, retiring in May 1992 in Iowa City. He also farmed for 25 years east of Maynard. He was a Korean War veteran, a lifetime member of the VFW, a member of the American Legion Post in Maynard for over 50 years, and the Eagles Club in Iowa City. He cherished his family and especially enjoyed his frequent visits from his wife’s niece, Barbara, and her husband, John Trosper of Orangevail, CA. Allen and Evelyn enjoyed spending winters in Orange Beach, Alabama with many friends and family coming to visit. While in Orange Beach, he perfected his Soduku puzzles. He is survived by his three children, Debra (Terry) Ruroden, Diana (Scott Johnson) Hardman, and Daniel (Jill) He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Chad (Tori), Nick (Shannon Brown) and Eric Ruroden, Drake and Deandrea Hardman, and Emily, Claudia, Zoey and Ada Schwarz, and Lexy Johnson; 6 great-grandchildren, Lexi, Emerson, Jordyn, Gavin, Breckin, and Irelyn; brother, Duane (Helen) Schwarz, and former son-in-law, Donald Hardman. He was preceded in death by his parents, spouse, Evelyn, on October 21, 2014, and his brother, Paul in January 2013. Graveside services for both Allen and Evelyn will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at the Long Grove Cemetery in Maynard, IA. A luncheon will follow at the Maynard Community Hall. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Charity of your choice, or the American Legion in Maynard.
