Obituary of Ronald C. Richmond

Ronald C. Richmond, 68, of North Liberty, died suddenly, Wednesday, July 27, 2016, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. A gathering time for family and friends will be held from 4 to 7pm Wednesday, August 3, 2016, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City, where military honors will be performed at 7pm. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in his name. Ronald Charles Richmond was born December 4, 1947 in Charles City, Iowa the son of Howard and Charlette (Shadbolt) Richmond. Following graduation from Osage High School in 1966, he served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. After the Navy he completed his Medical Technology education and lived in a number of different states, returning to Iowa in 1989. Here he worked as a Medical Technologist for Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, then for Marengo Hospital, and he retired from Red Star Yeast in Cedar Rapids in 2012. Ron was a diehard fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, but most of all he loved his family. His family includes his wife, Mary; daughter, Staci Richmond and step-children Megan Wells (Robert “BJ”); Jeremy Harper (Heather); 3 grandchildren, Logan Wells, Hayden Harper and Declan Harper; brother, Kent Richmond (Lana); and his sister-in-law, Lisa Richmond. Ron was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Keith.
