Obituary of Dee A. Hardy

Dee A. Hardy, 73, longtime area educator and counselor, died Saturday, October 22, 2016, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Dee was born in Hibbing, Minnesota. She graduated high school from Pipestone, MN, she then went on to receive her undergraduate degree from Dana College in Blair, NE where she studied Theology, History, and Education. She went on to receive Master’s Degrees in History and Education/Counseling from the University of Iowa. Dee will be remembered as a wonderful teacher and mother, but she was much more than that. She was a lover of books, long talks, exceptional food, wine, and good times. She cherished her visits to Nepal and the friends she made there. She loved lively conversations that lasted late into the night. Most of all she loved her husband, Larry, and missed him very much. Her family includes her children, Van Hardy (Emilie), Anne Hyang Ja Hardy, and Sarah Hardy-Scott (Nicholas); grandchildren, Marisah Richards, Nolan Scott, Zoe Scott, Elliot Scott, Haiden Hardy and Carver Hardy; Dee’s sister-in-law, Liz Hardy; and many others who were part of her chosen family. Dee was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Larry; and a sister, Paige Harmon. A gathering for family and friends will be held at her home from 2 to 5pm, Saturday, November 5th. In lieu of flowers Dee would have loved the idea of her friends planting more daffodils, just as they did when Larry passed. Online condolences may be sent for her family through the web @ www.gayandciha.com. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for Dee’s family and her arrangements.
