Obituary of Chad N. Courtney

Chad N. Courtney, 38, lifelong resident of this area, died Tuesday, November 1, 2016, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Services celebrating Chad’s life will be held at 4pm Sunday, November 6, 2016, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service, where there will be a time of visitation from 1 pm until services and then again following services on Sunday. Private family graveside services will be held at Memory Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Chad’s Memory. Chad Nicholas Courtney was born May 16, 1978, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, the son of Rodney and Debra (Hoskinson) Courtney. Following high school at West High he began a career in the construction field that allowed him to hone his carpentry skills in many areas. He married Nicole E. Harman on March 28, 2009, in Iowa City. The couple was blessed with two beautiful daughters, Autumn Moon and Patience Mae. If you knew Chad, you knew that he had a heart of gold that was larger than life. His heart was filled with love for all. A free spirit for sure, a connoisseur of life. His beaming smile and zest for life would win you over, but his sincerity kept you as a friend. The lessons he taught his girls came from his heart and from the life he had walked. Chad spent every moment he could making memories with his girls, whether they were fishing, camping, playing in the park or just exploring the wonders of the world. He wanted to make sure his girls were happy. Chad was a mentor and best friend to his nephews and nieces, as well as a true faithful Cubs fan. His family includes his wife, Nicole; their daughters, Autumn Moon and Patience Mae; parents , Rodney and Debbie Courtney; sister, Jessica McCullum (Jonathon); brother, Todd Courtney(Megan); nieces and nephews, Clayton, Rodney, Lillian, Jonathan, Akyrah, Nevaeh, Tehya and Genevieve; grandmothers, Darlene Hoskinson and Elizabeth Courtney; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Chad was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Lloyd Hoskinson and Junior Courtney, and cousin, Shantele Cornwell.
