Obituary of William A. Meardon

William Andrew “Andy” Meardon, 56, passed away on the evening of Thursday, December 15, 2016. He was a husband, father, granddad, friend to many, avid golfer and lover of life. Andy married the love of his life, Kathy, on February 14, 1990. There was nothing that was more important to him than his family. He had five beautiful children: Jason, Jack, Elyse, Andrea and Levi and seven adoring grand-children (Jeret, Aaryan, Asher, Lydia, Judah, Elena, Ephraim), who lovingly called him “Granddaddy”. Andy’s resilience was reflected in everything he did. He took on the insurance field and, over the course of many years, worked diligently to build his own company. Many business associates turned into life-long friends. That was Andy’s character; if he knew you and worked with you, you were a friend. Andy’s friends and work associates were extensions of his family. When Andy wasn’t spending time with his family or working, you could find him on the golf course or at a sporting event. He always took the opportunity to make any outing a social one, with friendly competition and laughter sure to follow. He would discreetly pick up everyone’s tab, but that’s just who Andy was. He was the man who wanted to take care of everyone. One of Andy’s best qualities was how he never said no to someone in need. He donated to multiple charities, the Give Foundation and University of Iowa Dance Marathon being particularly close to his heart. The biggest thing he gave was his time. You could call him day or night and you know he’d make the time and energy just for you. Andy leaves us with precious memories of love and happiness. He led his life by example through his integrity, work ethic and huge heart. Through death Andy has been reunited with his father, mother, nephew JC, best friends Doug Cummins and Dan Dwyer, along with many other loved ones, both friends and family. Family and friends are invited to gather at the Event Center of the Riverside Casino near Riverside on Monday, December 19th. Beginning at 4 pm. There will be a time beginning at 6 pm to share memories and stories of this man so many of us loved. A funeral service will be held at 1pm Tuesday at the Casino, with a private burial to follow at the North Scott Township Cemetery east of Iowa City. The family will be establishing a memorial fund to continue the philanthropic work that was so close to Andy’s heart. Donations can be made through Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Services at this time.
