Obituary of Sonja R. Taylor

Sonja R. Taylor, 47, of Tiffin, passed away Friday, December 23, 2016 at home surrounded by her family. Sonja R. Baker was born September 12, 1969 in Bozeman, Montana; daughter of Mearl and Marilyn (Larson) Baker. Sonja married the love of her life Jeff, on August 23, 1994 in Rapid City, South Dakota, and together shared the last 22 years. In 2010 they moved to the Iowa City area, and a short time later made Tiffin home. Sonja had worked at the Iowa City Veterans Affairs Medical Center in the Eye Clinic since 2013. She was a proud mom of five wonderful children, who drove her crazy most of the time, but she loved them more than anything in this life. In everything she did, she was a mother first; not a perfect mother, which she would be the first to admit, but she was the perfect mother to her children! She took great pride in them and their successes. Those that had the privilege to know Sonja knew that her love spoke volumes. She was a beautiful, smart and strong woman and will be greatly missed. Her family includes her husband, Jeff; children, Chad Taylor and his wife, Lacey of Grand Forks, ND, Amanda Murach and her husband, Jarod of Fargo, ND, Roger Hibdon of Holland, IA, Bradley Taylor of Camp Lejeune, NC, and Ethan Taylor of Tiffin; grandchildren, Cooper, Ella and Jackson; her parents, Mearl Baker and his wife, Jeanie and Marilyn Simpson; her brother, Greg Baker and his wife, Michelle and her aunts, Kathryn, Judy and Janet. Sonja was preceded in death by her grandparents. A time of visitation will be held 4-7 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 27th at the Gay & Ciha Funeral Service in Iowa City, where funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday. Memorials may be made to the Sonja Taylor Memorial Fund. Those may be sent directly to her family or to the funeral home.
