Obituary of Clarence E. Kaden

His family includes a son and his wife, Jeff and Barb Kaden of Bloomington, IN; a daughter and her husband, Nancy and Cal Lilienthal of Iowa City; grandchildren, David, Michelle and Michael Lilienthal, and Mary Ellen Byers and David Merideth; great-grandchildren, Maggie and Kenny Byers, and a sister, Joan Gehrke of Santa Rosa, CA. During World War II Clarence served in the United States Army in the 739th Field Artillery Battalion receiving a number of decorations including the Bronze Star. On October 28, 1950, he married Beverly Jean Barrett in Aurora, Illinois. Clarence worked for the U.S. Forest Service in Alabama for a few years; he then worked along side of his father in their carpentry business, Edward A. Kaden and Son in Elmhurst for over twenty-five years. Following this, he worked as a free-lance draftsman in the Chicago-land area until his retirement. He and his wife, Beverly moved to the Iowa City area in 1997 to be close to their daughter and her family. Beverly died July 19, 1999. Clarence Edward Kaden was born July 25, 1918, in Chicago, Illinois the son of Edward A. and Ellen A. (Schumacher) Kaden. He graduated from York High School, Elmhurst, Illinois in 1936, and later from the Iowa State College (ISU) with a degree in Forestry in 1940. While living in Elmhurst, Clarence was involved in the Elmhurst Park District, Boy Scouts, and the Christian Science Churches in both Elmhurst and Geneva, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Mr. Kaden's memory to Iowa City Hospice.
