Obituary of Verna Lee Goodner

Her family includes her half-brother, James and his wife, Wilma Russell of Peoria, IL; and a half-sister, Mildred Nicol of Dallas, TX; nieces, nephews grand nieces and nephews, Steven Schneberger of Iowa City, Carol Reese of Iowa City, Nancy Martinez of Dallas, Susan McCone of Dallas, Julie Nicol of San Juan, Puerto Rico, James A. Russell of Quincy, IL, and William R. Russell of Quincy, ll, William Reese, Rebecca Reese, Nathan Russell, Alex Russell, and Allison Russell. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, sister, Ruby Moran, and step-father, William A. Sapp. Verna was born April 22, 1907, in Campbellsville, KY the daughter of James and Cora Lee (Pitman) Eastridge. She graduated from the University of Iowa with a degree in history, and a minor in home economics. After college, she taught school in the western Iowa town of Harlan. Returning to Iowa City, she worked in food service at the Quadrangle Cafeteria of the University of Iowa for many years retiring as food supervisor. She had been married to Gerald Pearson, and after Mr. Pearson’s death she married Garold Goodner. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Iowa City, and various state and national teacher’s associations.
