Dean Charles Amelon was born August 19, 1944, in Iowa City the son of Earl and Letha (Zahner) Amelon.  He attended and graduated from Clear Creek Schools.  On August 22, 1964, he was united in marriage to Carolyn J. Spenner in Iowa City.  Dean along with his two brothers, Duane and Curt owned and operated Amelon Construction, which was started by their father, for many years.  His nephews Dave and Jeff became owners and continue to operate the business.  During his years of ownership, the company was responsible for building over 300 homes in this area. He was very proud of the fact that they never had to spend a dime on advertising as the word of mouth spread about the quality of their workmanship.  They always plenty of business to keep them busy!  Dean was so very proud of what he and his brothers and nephews had done.

Dean enjoyed much in his life.  He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, going to the farm with his sons and traveling with Carolyn on trips all over the United States. Dean and Carolyn loved this time of year, the Christmas season, especially the trickery they would play on their family with the wrapping and sharing of presents! Bottom line, family was paramount to both Dean and Carolyn, they would travel anywhere and everywhere to support their boys, and later grandchildren in their activities.  Dean loved being Dad and Grandpa to his family!

His family includes his two sons, Mike Amelon, and Ron and his wife, Chris Amelon; two grandchildren, Ben and Jordan; Dean’s sister, Joan Collins; his brother, Duane Amelon (Joyce); sisters-in-law, Phyllis Zahradnek and Mary Carter; as well as numerous extended family members.  Dean was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Carolyn; brother, Curt Amelon; Sister, Carol Conyers, and sister-in-law, Delores Zahradnek.
