Margaret Lavonne Cheung

Margaret Lavonne (Dunkel) Cheung of North Liberty, Iowa, former longtime resident of Dubuque, passed away peacefully on the morning of Monday, March 30th, 2026 at the age of 76. She was a loving grandmother, mother, aunt, sister, and friend, and beloved in turn by everyone who knew her.

Margaret was born in Santa Rosa, California, to Arthur and Helen Dunkel. She grew up in California, graduating from C.L. McLane High School in 1967.

Margaret resided in Dubuque, Iowa, for almost 50 years. There, she studied elementary education at Clarke University and raised her son, Jason Cheung, and daughter, Natalie Ghosheh.

Margaret’s greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren, Laitham, Devon, Lana, and Hazel. In recent years, she moved to North Liberty, Iowa, to be closer to her family. Margaret adored her son-in-law, Tamer, and her daughter-in-law, Melissa. She cherished extended family members Connie and Chloe. She was grateful for each of her dear friends and neighbors.

She is survived by her brothers Dale, Keith, and Darrel, as well as her sister, Kay. She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, John. Margaret will be remembered for her warm smile and all the happiness and kindness that she brought to the world. Her memory will always be carried with love.
