To the entire Booker family-- I send my sincere condolences and heartfelt sorry at the passing of Edna. I just learned of her passing today, 2/14/16, and am so very sorry to be so very late in paying my respects. I met Edna through the Smith family who were living in Alexandria, VA. Elizabeth Smith, or Lou as Edna called her, always talked about Edna and the family and I had the pleasure of meeting Edna when she visited Grandma Smith. She was the sweetest, kindest, most soft-spoken, beautiful lady and so devoted to her family and God. She had a beautiful, productive life. May she rest in peace until we see her once again.

My deepest sympathies to you all. I am a member of the Iowa City branch of the National League of American Pen Women. Edna was a charter member and was well-liked and respected. I had the pleasure of speaking with her on the phone several times throughout the past few years about Pen Women. We will miss her greatly. Mary Jedlicka Humston

The following message is from fellow Pen Woman Mildred Lavin who asked me to post this message for her:

I've been an old friend of Edna Booker always enjoyed her company whenever we visited.

She was an early member of the University Club's Writers where we first met. I always enjoyed hearing her read about her life and the fine activities she contributed so much to.

She'll remain honored in my memory for as long as I'm privileged to live.

Sincerely, Mildred H. Lavin

Sue and Tom - my condolences on the loss of your mother. Though I never had the pleasure to know her she sounds like quite a lady who had a wonderful and fulfilling life. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

I had the pleasure of meeting Edna as a Hospice volunteer. We seem to connect the moment I sat down to talk to her the very first time. We found we had so much in common as we shared small snipets of our lives from Siamese cats to military families to a love of poetry and song. It was a complete join to share a small slice of her life.

"Alloette " sweet Edna.

Dear Sandy and family,

I was sorry to hear about your mother's passing. It is hard to lose a parent but when age takes its toll, we are thankful that they are no longer suffering and that they are reunited with loved ones and friends that have gone before them.

You are in my thoughts and prayers always Sandy,

Kathy Klein Gerling

Edna was a gracious and caring lady. She fondly recalled her volunteer work for Goodwill, and her husband's commitment to helping Goodwill get off the ground in its early years. Edna was passionate about writing and loved to share information about her literary projects. It was clear that her family meant the world to her.

Edna and I had a deep and abiding affection for each other during many years of friendship. Her dedication to God, family and country can not be overstated. She was a wonderful woman who I was proud to call "friend."
