I first met Kathy when I came to the University of Iowa, Department of Pathology Core Laboratory in 2003. We became good friends as well as co-workers. No one was more dedicated to the profession of laboratory science. I did not know her as an instructor but I’m positive she was just as dedicated to her students. Rest in peace my friend,

I was fortunate to work with Kathy for twenty plus years. We shared many stories. The best ones were about her skiing to feed the birds when it was freezing cold.

May her soul be flying on eagles wings.

My sympathies to her family. I knew Kathy Kelly from my days at the University of Iowa Medical Laboratory Science program. She was such a great teacher and mentor. She always had a smile and she always had time to help and listen to you when you needed it. I enjoyed running into her a few times once I graduated and catching up on what she was doing. She will be missed.

I am so sorry for this terrible loss!! I remember meeting “Aunt Kathy” when I was about 16. She was always quick with a smile and a genuine concern for what was going on in our lives. Reading through some of the great things she did in her life, it’s not hard to see that she was an amazing person who will be missed immensely.

working on her hair and listening to her. I will miss her dearly.

Kelly was my instructor of Med Technology program at UI in the seventy.

She was very good and nice to all the students.

Then her and I reconnected at getting together with her and Mercy Retirees in Cedar Rapids and reminiscing of the college days.

She had a great and loving heart, sorry to Jon and all her family and members of your lost. She is going to be missed dearly at the retirees coffee get together.

God rest her soul.

Kathy was my phlebotomy trainer for the Med Tech program phlebotomy supervisor, and Advisor during my time at Iowa. I truly think she was one of my most amazing teachers and supervisors still to the day.

My favorite story of her is letting me draw my boyfriend/ now husband/ for my first “patient” because I didn’t know if I could do the MT program because I was scared of needles at the time. She supervised as I stabbed him and encouraged me along. Still a Med Tech to this day because of her.

She will be missed.

Thank you to whoever wrote her obituary because you captured Kelly's zest for life in her travels, care for all animals and especially her connection and love of family and friends. Her kindness and caring for others (including all living things) will never be forgotten. She touched so many lives in a very good way.
