Todd, Marty, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and extended family -

Karen and I were saddened to hear of Joan’s passing, but relieved to know that her suffering has ended.

I have many memories of sharing time with Joan, Lonnie, Todd & Troy, at the house in West Liberty, amongst the farm animals (so exotic and exciting to city boys!), and enjoying the baking and cooking skills of Joan and Grandma Liddell (Georgia). The pies, cookies, fried chicken… so amazing, especially with a young boy's appetite!

Joan always seemed quiet and reserved in company, and I never knew a great deal about her when we were younger. In later years, after the Liddell family reunion she and my mom organized in 2012, I enjoyed occasional correspondence with her. In the last few years we exchanged a number of emails, through which I could appreciate her articulate observations on life and living, her humor and her kind caring for others. Central to every communication was family - her joy in her own family, and the joy she shared for mine. I will miss those correspondences.

We hope that despite the sadness of this time, you will be able to recall some of your great memories, laughter and love that you were able to share with Joan and your family for so many years.  You are in our thoughts.

Fondly,

Pat and Karen

I met Lonnie and Joan while they were the hosts at Edgewater Park. As gardener for the City of Coralville, I was also in charge of the big flowerbed at the campground. It was like we had been friends forever. I loved visiting with them, and especially Joan, as we sat and watched the Iowa River with her sharing cookies. We have always kept in touch, especially at Christmas. She wrote a nice note to me last month. I know you all know this but she was simply charming, truly kind and very happy. You picked the perfect picture of her. My sincere condolences.

Sending thoughts and prayers to the entire family. I didn't know Joan but work with her son, Todd, at Pearson. Sounds like a very special lady, remember the good times and continue to share those recipes. Take care.
