Obituary of Lorenzo Thornton
Lorenzo Cortez Thornton went home to be with his mother and the Lord on April 9, 2005, at St. Mary Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota following an extended illness. A Celebration of His Life will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2005, with a gathering of family and friends from 12-2 p.m.at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Graveside services will be at 2pm at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. A memorial fund has been established in his memory. Online condolences can be sent to the family through our website at www.gayandciha.com. Lorenzo was born December 27, 1971, in Memphis, Tennessee to Brenda Thornton. Lorenzo loved playing basketball, writing poetry and drawing. He was a very outgoing person and a joy to be with. All those who knew him, know how deeply he will be missed. He is now at peace and in the arms of his mother, Brenda L. Thornton Grandberry and his grandparents, James and Millerine Thornton. Lorenzos family includes his sons, DeQuon Cortez Lacey of Rock Island, IL, Bishop Cortez Thornton of Moline, IL, daughter, Ariann Thornton of Davenport, Iowa; brothers, Treadrick Reed of Iowa City, Isaac Grandberry of Iowa City, and stepfather, Clerone Grandberry of Rock Island, IL. Uncles, Mark Thornton of Moline, IL, Anton and Sylvester Thornton of Memphis, TN. Special friend, Andrea Geissler of Cedar Rapids, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
