Obituary of Patricia Ann Mulcahy

Patricia Ann Mulcahy passed away November 3, 2021 in Iowa City at home surrounded by her loved ones. She was 79 years old. Patricia was born December 4, 1941 in Ottumwa, Iowa, the daughter of John Mulcahy and Rosemary Tullis. Throughout her life, Patricia had a variety of careers, but the one that she found most satisfying was working with Pearson Education in Iowa City. As a very giving and caring person, she had a heart for the less fortunate and was a champion for the underdog. She loved to travel – Italy being her favorite – and tried to visit a new country every year. She also made several trips to Morocco, finding such treasures as a rug wove by the local women, excited to find it really tied her room together. Very proud of her heritage, Patricia was given the opportunity to study abroad in Ireland for her Bachelor’s degree through the University of Iowa. She loved reading and immersing herself in the intricacies of the English language. She appreciated art in all forms, enjoying theater, art exhibits, and music. Her garden was her passion project, working outside for as long as the weather allowed. Above all, she loved her children and grandchildren, entertaining them with her wonderfully sharp sense of humor, philosophies, and wit. Patricia touched so many lives; her memory and spirit will be carried on through her family and numerous friends. She will be truly missed. Surviving Patricia are her cherished children, Maureen “Mo” Gadient, Robert Gadient, Gabrielle “Gigi” Gadient Miller, Brian Moeller and Philip (special lady friend Gidget Roberson) Moeller; step-daughters, Paula and Jackie Moeller; grandchildren, Andy Gadient, Abby (Jim) Shumate, Michael (Bonnie) Gadient, Jordan Miller, Riley Miller, Caleb Moeller, Baylee Roberson and Cullen Roberson; great grandchild, Piper Shumate; siblings, Joe Mulcahy, Terry Mulcahy, Steven Mulcahy, Daniel Mulcahy, Peter Mulcahy, Margaret “Maggie” Arends and Bridget Mulcahy; and sister-in-law, Elizabeth “Betty” Gadient. Sadly, Patricia was preceded in death by her parents, John (Pat) Mulcahy and Rosemary Tullis. Per her wishes, her body was donated to University of Iowa’s Deeded Body Program to aid in the continued education of future medical professionals. On what would have been her 80th birthday, family and friends are welcome to leave their sadness at the door and per her final wish, partake in a traditional Irish wake to enjoy memories and stories of this extraordinary woman. Join in a toast, dance a jig and help give a proper send off as she requested on Dec. 4th at El Cortez, 423 Brady St. in Davenport, IA, between the hours of noon and 4:00 p.m. (or beyond for the truly hearty amongst us). Please continue to keep Patricia in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. If you would like to make a donation, one of the many services that received ongoing support from Patricia is the Domestic Violence Intervention Program, dvipiowa.org/donate.
