Obituary of David P. Dixon
David Paul Dixon “Dave”, 79, of Iowa City Iowa, died in his home on November 23, 2024, after battling lung cancer, surrounded by his wife, daughters, granddaughter, and sister.
Dave was born on November 6, 1945, in Marengo, Iowa, to Kathryn (Herman) Holst and Everett Schwab. On October 27, 1973, Dave married the love of his life, Mary (Kruse) Dixon. In his free time, Dave loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and attending their extracurricular activities. He also enjoyed playing Pepper. In his earlier years, Dave loved to play the guitar and sing.
Dave worked for 36 years as a machinist for Owens Brush/Procter & Gamble, where he proudly served as a Union Steward for Teamsters Local 238, the largest union in Iowa.
Dave is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Mary (Kruse) of Iowa City; his daughters, Kelly (Dixon) Norman of West Branch, Peggy (Dixon) (Doug) Trosper of West Branch; his daughter-in-law, Karen (Ron) Dixon, Davenport, Iowa; his grandchildren, Mariah (Jake) Marshall of West Liberty, J. Drake Swails, Stillwater, Oklahoma, Dawson Swails, West Branch, Marisa (Ryan) Garvin, West Branch, Joshua Dixon, Davenport; Megan Dixon, and Tatum Dixon, California; his greatgrandchildren, Nash and Rayna Marshall, West Liberty; and his siblings, Raymond (Bonnie) Schwab, Sherrard, Illinois, and Berta (Charley) Garrett, Kansas City, Missouri. Dave also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, cousins, whom he loved dearly, and his loyal companion dog, Cookie.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Everett “Butch” (Janet) Schwab, Alexis, Illinois, Kenny (Bonnie) Schwab, Belle Plaine, Iowa, and Robert “Bobby” Rush, Belle Plaine, Iowa; sister, Donna (Mike) Owens, Lawson, Missouri; his son, Ron (Karen) Dixon, Davenport, Iowa; and a granddaughter, Kaitlyn Norman, West Branch.
Visitation will be held at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service, 2720 Muscatine Ave, Iowa City, IA 52240, on Wednesday, November 27, 2024 from 9:30 am until 11:30 am, followed by a Celebration of Life at 11:30. Maurie Campbell, Spiritual Guidance Counselor with Iowa City Hospice, will officiate. Dave’s ashes will be interred later at Memory Gardens in Iowa City, Iowa. The family invites guests for fellowship following the service.
