Obituary of Ruth Coleman
Ruth A. Coleman, age 80 of North Liberty died Thursday, January 23, 2025, at Lanter Park Nursing and Rehab Center in Coralville.
Memorial services celebrating Ruth’s life will be held at 3 pm on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City, where a time of fellowship will follow services. Ruth Alice Coleman was born October 16, 1944, in Tama County, Iowa the daughter of Noble and Ruth V. (Tomlinson) Houston. She attended schools in Tama, graduating from high school, then attended and graduated from the University of Iowa. Ruth married Don A. Coleman on August 15, 1965, in Tama. She started her working career at the Veterans Administration as a research assistant. She joined Don in their passion for photography working at Kent Studio for many years. She resumed her work at the University of Iowa Hospitals as a research assistant and was sited in many published works dealing with alcoholism’s affects on the immune system.
Ruth has always had a infatuation for horses, and riding; this led her to her volunteering at Miracles in Motion. She also enjoyed working with animal rescue, supporting education in the St. Josephs Indian School, reading as a volunteer in the elementary schools, loved to sew and support Don’s love of woodworking. But most of all, she loved being wife, mom and grandma to her family!
Her family includes her husband, Don, their two daughters, Teresa Coleman and Brenda Coleman; grandson, Douglas Kirby and her sister, Linda Corns.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Beverly Vaverka and brother, Willis Houston.
