
Obituary of William Witt
William “Bill” Witt, age 83 of North Liberty died April 29, 2025, at the Windmill Manor Care Center in Coralville.
Memorial Services will be held at 10am Saturday, May 17, 2025, at the First United Methodist Church in North Liberty. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Bill’s honor to the First United Methodist Church of North Liberty.
Bill was born October 11, 1941, in Ackley, Iowa the son of Dr. Elroy H. and Esther (Reimers) Witt. He graduated from Ackley, Iowa high school and later attended the University of Iowa. He married Beverly Abbas in 1960. The couple resided in Ackley where he and his wife owned and operated the family clothing store, Witt’s Clothing. In time the family moved to the Iowa City area where Bill continued in retail working for the former Bremers and later at Dillard's before officially retiring. Following Beverely’s death in 2009, Bill married Vilma Witt.
Wherever Bill lived, he was involved in the community, longtime member of Rotary International, in this area he was a member of the North Liberty United Methodist Church, staunch supporter of Iowa Hawkeye athletics, the St. Louis Cardinals and the Arkansas Razorbacks because his son went to school there and stayed a Razorback for life. True to Bill, he supported and loved his family, especially as the grandchildren came along!
His family includes his wife, Vilma; son and his wife, Todd and Elizabeth Witt; grandchildren, Ashton Witt, Marshall Witt (Georgia), Nathan Bloomquist (Lindsey) and Joshua Bloomquist; Bill’s sister, Carolyn Watermiller (Dave); and numerous family members of Vilma’s
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Beverly; and their daughter, Jane Bloomquist.
