Obituary of Linda Susan Clausen

Linda Susan Clausen passed away peacefully Saturday June 21st 2025 at Heritage Specialty Care in Cedar Rapids IA.  Linda was born January 29th 1942 in Clarinda IA and was adopted by Arthur and Marie Schmeichel shortly after. She grew up as a young girl in Muscatine IA until her family moved to Iowa City. She remained in the area the rest of her life.

On February 19th 1974 Linda married Victor Clausen at the Wesley House in Iowa City. They had one daughter Marie (MariAnn) Clausen. Linda had a love of 50s -70s music, animals and caring for others. Linda worked at several area nursing homes throughout her working years. She also worked for the Smith family at the BlueTop Motel in Coralville. She was know as Linda 2 because both the housekeepers were named Linda. But Linda's true delight in her life was her 3 grandsons Austin, Connor and Parker. She also was a Grandma to many family friends young children.

Linda was an artist.  Her main hobby was making special baby books with poems and nursery rhymes and included a special page with the baby's name and statistics. These books were made from onion skin paper and she wrote them with her own unique calligraphy writing. These gifts were time taking but she loved doing it. Anyone who ever received one knew they were truly cared about by her.

Linda is survived by her daughter, Marie Clausen (Chris Snyder) of Washington IA; her grandsons, Austin Stratton of Ankeny IA, Connor Stratton (Tara Jones) of Mt Pleasant IA and Parker Stratton of Washington IA; her sister, Ann Farland of Iowa City, IA and cousins, Richard (Maggie) Hogue of Granada Hills CA. And her 5 nieces.

She is preceded in death by her parents Athur and Marie Schmeichel, two stillborn brothers, aunts and uncles and her husband Victor Clausen.

A celebration of Linda's life will be held at First Baptist Church in Washington IA on July 26th 2025 at 10:30 with a light lunch to follow. Burial will be at Memory Gardens in Iowa City IA at a later date.
