Obituary of Charles Lee Henkle
Charles Lee Henkle, 62, known to all as Charlie, died of natural causes at his Iowa City home on June 16, 2025.
Charlie was born on February 5, 1963, and he was a 1981 graduate of Waterloo West High School. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from the University of Iowa in 1987.
Charlie was a kind soul, with a big heart and a wonderful sense of humor. He was a wit and could easily elicit a laugh from his friends with a humorous comment. A voracious reader, his literary interests included novels, but mostly non-fiction, including biographies and sports books. The study of history was a passion for him.
Charlie enjoyed discussing current events, music and sports. He had an encyclopedic knowledge of those subjects, and he possessed a Jeopardy-like knowledge of various random facts. Indeed, Charlie often participated in bar trivia nights with friends and co-workers. He was a devoted fan of the Kansas City Royals, Minnesota Vikings, and the Iowa Hawkeyes. He was a season ticket holder for men’s wrestling and football teams at the University of Iowa, and he was an ardent supporter of the men’s basketball team as well.
Charlie was employed by General Dynamics Information Technology in Coralville. He was preceded in death by his foster parents, Francis and Marge Brennan of Waterloo, IA. Services have been held, with internment at Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City, IA.
Rest well dear friend, rest well. Your friendship was a treasure, and we are better people because of that friendship.
