Obituary of Charlotte Eunice Zweiner

Charlotte (Char) Eunice Zwiener, 99, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday July 1, 2025 in West Branch, Iowa. Char was born in St. Paul, Minnesota, to Oscar and Lydia Frey on May 22, 1926. It was there that she met and married her husband of 71 years, Charles (Chuck) Zwiener. He proceeded her in death in 2018.

Char graduated from Murray High School, then worked for a few years while Chuck served in the Army Air Forces. It was only after she married that she achieved her true ambition of being a wife and mother. Char and Chuck were blessed with three children in as many years with the births of Timothy, Christine, and Daniel. After a 10-year hiatus they added Julie, Paul, and Laurie, thus completing their family of 8.

Char hosted many family gatherings over the years where food was never lacking and card and board games were fun and competitive. She was a true sports fan, cheering on the Hawkeyes, Cubs, and the Bears. Her favorite destination was Las Vegas where she often got the better of those slots. In her later years she spent countless hours coloring, creating beautiful cards and artwork for those she loved. Most of all she enjoyed time with her family, lovingly chronicled in many photo albums we now cherish.

Char is survived by her children Timothy Zwiener of Iowa City, Ia.; Christine Housel (James) of Iowa City, Ia.; Daniel Zwiener (Barbara) of Tucson, Az.; Julie Misa (José) of Lovington, Il.; Paul Zwiener (Sandra) of Winter Park, Fla.; and Laurie (Greg) McGhee of Beloit, Wi.; 13 grandchildren, Brianna, Heather, Robin, Tiffany, John, Derek, Nathan, Daniella, Fernando, Damon, Elaina, Olivia and Gabriella; and 11 great grandchildren.

Char is preceded in death by her parents; siblings Oscar, Eugene, Felix and Cleon; granddaughter Natalie; and husband, Charles.

Honoring her wishes, a private family service will be held.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Care Initiatives Hospice.
