Katherine "Kitty" Helen McGuire, a woman of profound strength and unwavering spirit, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2025, at 5:23 AM in Iowa City, Iowa. Born on October 14, 1943, in Mansfield, Ohio, Kitty lived 81 years with a resilience that defined her life. Deaf since childhood, she transformed her silence into a powerful voice, communicating with grace, conviction, and an honesty that touched everyone she met.
Kitty was a woman of deep faith, boundless love, and steadfast determination. Her deafness was not a limitation but a cornerstone of her identity, shaping her into a person of remarkable courage and clarity. She expressed herself through sign language with eloquence and passion, sharing her thoughts and beliefs with a sincerity that left a lasting impression. Known for her fun-loving nature, stubborn resolve, and unfiltered honesty, Kitty lived life on her own terms, always guided by her devotion to God and her family. Her faith was her anchor, and her family finds solace in knowing she is now at peace in heaven, free from suffering and reunited with her loved ones.
A graduate of St. Mary’s School for the Deaf in Buffalo, New York, Kitty carried the values of faith and perseverance throughout her life. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar and Janice McGuire, and her brother, Edgar Robinson McGuire, who surely welcomed her with open arms in eternity.
Kitty is survived by her cherished sons, Clark and Edgar McGuire, who remained by her side until her final moments, honoring her with their love and dedication. She also leaves behind Erin McGuire, Clark’s wife, whom Kitty embraced as her beloved daughter. They were her greatest pride, and her legacy of strength and compassion lives on through them.
A funeral service to honor Kitty’s remarkable life will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Iowa City, Iowa, on July 26, 2025, at 10:00 AM. The family invites all who knew her to join in celebrating her enduring spirit.
