Obituary of Donald Hodson

Reverend Donald L. Hodson, age 79 of Coralville died at his home, Monday, July 21, 2025, surrounded by his family.

Funeral services will be held at 11am Friday, July 25, 2025, at the First United Methodist Church in Iowa City (Sunday parking ordinance will be in effect for streets near the church).  Visitation will be on Thursday from 5 to 7pm at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City.  Graveside services will be held at 12 noon on Saturday at the Oakwood Cemetery in Plymouth, Iowa.  Memorial donations can be made in Don’s Honor to the Burr Oak Trust, Table to Table or the charity of your choice. Donald Lee Hodson was born November 2nd, 1945, in Mason City, Iowa.  The son of Boyd and Hazel Hodson, he grew up on a dairy farm in Plymouth, Iowa.  He graduated from the University of Iowa and Luther Theological Seminary.  He was married to his loving wife for 55 years.  Don loved the church.  He pastored throughout Iowa serving The United Methodist Church for 45 years.  He served on the Johnson County Conservation Board and on The Burr Oak Land Trust Board of Directors.  Don enjoyed gardening, fishing, trapping, hunting, and most sports.

His family includes his wife, Kathy;  their son, Lee and daughter-in-law Jennifer; granddaughters, Avery and Hadley Hodson; sister, Joan and brother-in-law, James Weinberger; brother, Jerry and sister-in-law, Beverly Hodson; brother, Neil and sister-in-law, Sue Hodson; sister-in-law, Becky Havel and her husband Dale.  Also surviving are many loved nieces and nephews.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, brother, John and his wife Diann and sister, Georgene.
