Obituary of Lois F. Peterson
Lois F. Peterson, age 101 longtime resident of Iowa City, died Saturday, July 26, 2025,in Minneapolis, MN where she spent the past ten years to be closer to family.
Memorial services will be held 10am Saturday, August 30, 2025, at the First Presbyterian Church in Iowa City where she was a long time member, with inurnment at the church columbarium following services. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Lois’s honor to Alzheimer's Association, one of your favorite food shelves, or your Public TV/Radio.
Lois Faye Scott was born July 6, 1924, in Davis, South Dakota, the daughter of Andrew and Sena (Sinning) Scott. Following graduation from Davis High School, she attended and graduated from the Iowa State Teachers College (UNI). She moved to Iowa City where she began her teaching career at the University of Iowa Hospital School. She was united in marriage to Dr. Richard E. Peterson on August 6, 1955, in Iowa City where they made their home and raised their family. Lois was an elementary school teacher in the Iowa City Community School District for many years, retiring in 1990.
Lois was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church of Iowa City along with her husband and family. She took pride in becoming something of a real estate developer upon retirement, taking the opportunity for naming rights of the street names of the property where she and Richard raised their family. She was a master quilter, and enjoyed a mean game of Scrabble, Mexican Train, and 5 Crowns, She remained sharp to the end, with a quick wit and strong opinions.
She is survived by her, daughters Margaret Swenson (William), Christina Diaz (Nils), Sarah Peterson (James Maertens) and Karen Linnea Peterson (John Corman), her son, Andrew Peterson (Hua Tien); eleven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She also is survived by many nieces and nephews.
Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; She was the final living member of her seven siblings and their spouses.
