Gary Lee Flansburg was born February 8, 1938, in Tiffin, Iowa the son of A.C. and Ester (Stoneking) Flansburg. Growing up in Tiffin, many stories are still shared about him and his years there.  His mother died at an early age, following graduation from high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy.  Here he saw a lot of the world.  He returned to this area following service and was united in marriage to Shirley Greazel.  They became proud parents of two sons, Jeff and Joe who kept Gary plenty busy with coaching and going to the football and baseball games; Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts and all other father-son activities they could and would do.

For a number of years Gary did private contracting and sales and worked with his Uncle Dale Flansburg building and servicing homes in the area. In 1970 Gary started working at the University of Iowa in several areas until becoming facility maintenance manager of the Kinnick Stadium retiring in 1999. He would often say when “Hayden retired and walked out the door, so did I!”

Gary married Linda Plum Lattner and was busy with her two boys Kirk and Kevin and all that they were involved with.  You could always count on two things from Gary Flansburg, he would help you out with anything, give you the shirt off his back; always willing tell you a joke, story with a stretch of the imagination often!  After retirement he and Linda enjoyed many winters in Florida making so many new lifelong friends from the U.S. and Canada.  From this, came visits to friends in Canada during the summers. My what fun they had over the years.

His family includes his wife, Linda; sons, Jeffrey Flansburg and his wife, Kristi; Joe Flansburg and Mary; Kirk Lattner and his wife, Charlene; and Kevin Lattner; grandchildren, Jade Flansburg (Zach), Coal Flansburg, Ashley Flansburg and Jessica Flansburg;  sister, Jill Flansburg (John); brother-in-law, Al Wyborny (Sonya); Linda’s brother, sister and their families; and many neighbors and friends.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother Lita Flansburg, brother, James Flansburg, sister, Mary Wyborny; uncle, Dale Flansburg and his wife, Laverne.

He will be missed in so many ways.  He had advice for solving everything, always with laughter!
