Obituary of James E. Bemrose

James E. “Jim” Bemrose, age 85 lifetime Iowa City resident died Sunday, July 6, 2025, at his residence surrounded by his family.

Graveside memorial services with military honors will be held at 2pm Thursday, August 28, 2025, at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Coralville.

James Ellsworth Bemrose was born December 6, 1939, in Iowa City the son of William and Florence (Kennedy) Bemrose.  Following high school he enlisted in the United States Navy. Returning to Iowa City he went on to receive his associates degree.  Jim worked for the State of Iowa Department of Corrections for many years.

His family includes his wife, Mildred; their two children, James and his wife, Patricia Bemrose and Julie Baxter and her husband, James; 6 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and a sister, Josephine Johnson.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, step-father Lloyd Abby; and son, Steven.
