Dear Marlene, Leah, Sara, and Kyle,

My deepest sympathies to you all during this tremendously difficult time. You are in my thoughts and prayers. I hope you can find some comfort in one another.

I feel truly blessed having had the opportunity to meet Gary during my college days after becoming friends with you, Leah. Spending time with you and your family at your parents’ home in Iowa City was a comforting and joyful experience for me, one that I will never take for granted. The kindness and love Gary and you all showed me touched me deeply. I felt as though I had found my “family away from home”. It was so clear to me the strength of the bonds you all shared with each other. I hope those bonds will give you strength and peace.
