Obituary of Sean E. Krueger
Sean E. Krueger, age 53, of Riverside, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids with his family by his side.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 2:00 P.M. until 5:00 P.M. on Sunday, September 28, 2025 at Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service.
Sean was born on March 4, 1972, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, the son of Dwight Krueger and Lorna (Pike) Krueger. He graduated from West High School.
Sean worked as a baker, hung drywall, helped his brother at Krueger Construction, and was a custodian at the University of Iowa for many years.
One of Sean’s passions was cooking, and he found great joy in preparing meals for his family and friends. Holidays were especially meaningful to him, and he looked forward to every family gathering whether large or small. Sean had a love of travel, especially annual fishing trips to Wisconsin, where time on the water brought him peace and happiness. One of his favorite memories was going to Sicily with his family. He loved taking long walks with his favorite dogs. Sean never met a stranger and could sit and talk for hours. Above all, Sean’s greatest joy was being with his family; he especially loved spending time with his nieces and nephews, who meant the world to him. They will always remember him with love and joy. He is truly going to be missed and family traditions shared with Sean will never be the same without him.
Sean’s family includes his mother, Lorna Krueger of Iowa City; father, Dwight (Julie) Krueger of Nichols; brothers Phillip (Keely) Krueger of Woodstock, Illinois, and Brian (Terri) Krueger of Oxford; a sister, Dawn Barrera of Austin, Texas; 10 nieces and nephews: Phillip (Abby) Krueger, Anthony Krueger, Sofia Krueger, Ethan Krueger, Adam (Gloria) Krueger, Taelor (Eric) Janssens, Brysn Krueger, Michael (Kaitlyn) Reichert, Samantha Reichert, and Steven Barrera; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Sean’s family is especially grateful to his Uncle Ray, whose thoughtfulness will never be forgotten.
Sean was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Albert and Lenora Pike, and his paternal grandparents, Walter and Gladys Krueger.
The family would also like to thank St. Luke’s Hospital and Hospice Care. Their kindness and compassion were above and beyond, and the family was blessed by their presence and excellent care.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Family of Sean Krueger.
