Obituary of Charles W. Mellerup

Charles “Ward” Mellerup, age 77 lifetime resident of Des Moines died at his home, October 2, 2025.

Ward was born December 26, 1947, in Des Moines, the son of Charles and Maxine (Bishop) Mellerup.  He graduated from Des Moines Technical High School in 1966.  He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served two years in Vietnam.  Returning to Des Moines he attended DMACC, graduating with an Associates degree in Computer Technology.  For the next 30+ years he was employed by the U.S. Postal Service at the main distribution center in Des Moines to fix and maintain the equipment. 

In retirement he was free to pursue his many interests; cooking, jewelry making,crafting hunting knives, hand painted enameling, bookmaking, small steam engines, raising orchids and saltwater fish.  Ward would master one interest and move on to the next.  A seeker of knowledge. He was a member of Makerspace in Des Moines and the Hobby Train Club at Merle Hay.

His parents preceded him before his death. He is survived by his sister, Colleen, and many wonderful cousins with whom he grew up. 

Ward was a gentle and caring soul. He was the Best big brother.
