Obituary of Clara Potter

Clara B. Potter, age 92 of Iowa City died Thursday, November 27, 2025, at the Bird House-Hospice Home of Johnson County.

Funeral services will be held at 11am Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City with burial to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.  There will be a time of visitation from 9:30am until services on Wednesday at the funeral home.  IN lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Clara’s memory to the Bird House-Hospice Home of Johnson County.  To share a thought, memory or condolence with her family please visit Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service website @ www.gayandciha.com.

Clara Berniece Keller was born July 9, 1933, in Fairfield, Iowa the daughter of James and Georgia (Dice) Keller. She grew up in Glasgow, Iowa  attending schools in Lockridge and Fairfield.  She came to Iowa City in 1940 and has lived here since.  She married William L. Potter on August 21, 1965.  For a number of years, she worked at UIHC in central sterilization.  She left there and worked as a cook in the lunchroom at West High School until her retirement in the early 2000’s.

Her family includes children, Jerry Litton (Carol), Roger Litton (Patricia), James Potter (Marykathryn), Sheila Cole, and Theresa Underwood (Dean); grandchildren, Kage Kral, Kassidy (Megan) Kral, Nathan (Melissa) Cole, Brian (Meghann) Litton, Andrew (Lindsey) Litton, James (Erin) Litton, Melissa (Shaun) Slaughter, Jacob Potter and Rachelann Potter.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Bill; and son-in-law, Hugh Cole.
