Obituary of Melvin F. Dvorsky

Melvin F. Dvorsky, 82 a lifetime resident of Iowa City died, Monday, December 1, 2025 at The Bird house- Hospice Home of Johnson County.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2 pm, Tuesday, December 9, 2025 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Iowa City where a visitation will be from 1 pm until the time of the mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Melvin’s memory to St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Iowa City or Riverside.  

Melvin Franklin Dvorsky was born November 23, 1943, in Iowa City, Iowa the son of Matt E. and Florence (Jensen) Dvorsky.  He attended schools in Iowa City, graduating from Regina High School in 1969.  Melvin was an avid gardener and horticulturist. . 

He was a lifelong resident of Iowa City; a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Iowa City and also strong ties with the church in Riverside, honorary member of the Regina High School Alumni Association and Booster Club, had been a volunteer for Congregate Meals, and had served as a Eucharistic minister at St. Mary’s.  He had also served on the St. Mary’s Liturgy Commission, Building and Grounds Committee and also as a parish greeter.  He served two years on the Johnson County Paratransit Advisory Board, and was a regular volunteer at the Regina Fall Festival. 

He is survived by many good friends and acquaintances, including Robert and Sue Dvorsky and their daughters, Ann and Caroline; Jean Bartley, Mary Davis and Becky Livermore, longtime friend, Joan.  Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Chris, longtime friend Rex Fleming.
