Aunt Betty, Bob, Dave and Steve. Hugs to you all. Uncle Bob was such a "rock" for my mom for so many years. Wishing you all peace. No doubt we will all meet again!

I met Bob while he was heading the Air Force ROTC program at Iowa. I was the student. Bob was the very interesting instructor with war stories galore. His stories were worth one year's tuition. I once asked a question during his class, and it caught his fancy. I have no recollection of the question. A few years later, he and Betty came to my law office for some kind of assistance, buying a house, probably, and he began the conference with, "You're the guy who asked me . . . . " I'll never forget how interested he was in that event, but I should have known because he was interested in everything. He also had a recollection which puts mine to shame. I very much enjoyed our many conversations about our service in the Air Force, and, later about his writing. Such a fun and interesting fellow. I already miss him. Hugs to you, Betty.
I met Colonel Stein in the early 1970s when I worked for the Boy Scouts. We needed something for a campout and we approached Colonel Stein. 'YOU CAN HAVE IT" he said within 2 minutes of the meeting! Bob and I were friends since. They sat in the same row as my Wife and I at Men's Basketball in Carver Arena for years. I spoke to him often. A true American Hero, a great and PROUD Hawkeye Letterman and Fan.
I am proud to have know Bob Stein.
My condolences to the Family.

Robert and I were both Air Force, though from different eras. Robert flew planes and I fixed them. I always enjoyed our times together and I'm sorry I didn't get to see him more these last few years. He will truly be missed by all that knew him. My deepest condolences to Betty and the family.
My Dad, Major Bernard L Westfall, went to the U of Iowa with Bob and may even have been roommates. I can just imagine the swimmer (Bob) and gymnast (Bernie) jet jockeys having a blast together on campus. My Dad always spoke highly of Bob and I know he had the utmost respect for him. Sending Westfall family condolences to Bob’s loved ones.

In the spring of 2004, Bob presented me with my I-ring. I swam for the Hawkeyes for four years. I wear my ring to this day and I think of him often. He was a legend and I am proud to have known him. I send love and comfort to his family. Don't grieve his loss, but celebrate his existence. Bob truly embodied what it meant to be a Hawkeye: live your best life, lead with integrity, and love whole-heartedly.
Hello to Aunt Betty and all the cousins reading this. I just had my 60th birthday on the 8th and I was recalling the story of when my Dad (Bill) had his 50th birthday and you guys came to Long Beach and we all surprised him. That might be the last Time I saw Uncle Bob, I think. My condolences to our family and I hope we all live into our 90's and beyond. I think about you guys all the time. Mary sent me the link to get here.
Love to Aunt Betty, cousins Bob, David and Steven. Uncle Bob was a great guy and wonderful teacher. I received my first 15 minute tutorial from Uncle Bob on the safe use of bayonets in the Air Force circa 1963. Uncle Bob was pleasantly chagrined after I gave him a b+ for his first novel. I for one will miss him greatly! Godspeed, Jerome Kendall
Betty and family,
We are saddened to see that Bob has passed. His was a life well lived. Our memories go way back to our girls paper route days , running into both of you at church, and at the Hyvee and other "neighborhood" places. He always had a smile and a story to tell.
We know he will be missed. Thinking of you.

My condolences to Betty and to all of the family. I became acquainted with Bob and Betty at church and always enjoyed our conversations. I am happy to have a copy of The Black Samaritan, which Bob signed for me in 2004. May your memories and the love of family and friends be the support you need in these days.
Dear Betty,
There is a great deal of sadness that I learn of Bob passing. He was a geed friend and compatriot. The hours we spent together serve many good memories. Please take care.
Dear Betty,
This goes back a while when I met you during my tenure at Killians. A blast from the past but you introduced me to Bob and he was such a gracious and kind man. And certainly left a legacy with you by his side and 3 wonderful young men and their families. A life well lived to the fullest . . . . a tribute and a treasure and a loving legacy. I am so to hear of your loss Betty. Thinking of you.
