To Chuck's Family: Chuck was ID faculty when I was a resident and ID fellow. He was a mentor always and then a colleague and friend thereafter who I still miss frequently. My thoughts are with you.

My condolences to the Helms family. Having worked at the UIHC for many years, I found Dr Helms to be unpretentious and gentleman.

Lelia and family: I am so sorry to learn of Dr. Helms' death. He was a wonderful leader who taught me so much. Quiet, cerebral, humble, and always caring and compassionate. So many wonderful memories of his time with Iowa Medical Society. The last time I saw him, he was at our home in Columbus, OH because he and Lelia had come to visit the son who is a veterinarian and was doing a pathology fellowship at OSU. I am a better person because of how he helped me develop as a professional. So grateful and honored that I got to know him and work closely with him and learn from him. Deepest condolences to the Helms family and all of the people who will miss him dearly but remember him so fondly. His legacy is large, and we take comfort in knowing he lived a life that mattered immensely to many, many people.
