Obituary of Montie C. Owen

Montie C. Owen, age 77 longtime resident and heavy equipment operator in the area died at his home Sunday, February 1, 2026.

Montie was born December 21, 1948, in Mt. Vernon, Illinois, the son of Henry and Thelma Owen.  Following graduation from high school he enlisted in the United States Air Force serving his country proud during the Vietnam War. He married Marie Davis nearly 45 years ago here in Iowa City.  The couple have lived in this area, raising their family.  Montie was known as one of those that could operate any sort of equipment getting the job done well and with pride.  He was also known to like his western movies, cigarettes, “his time” and of course his family.

His family includes his wife, Marie; their eight children, sixteen grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, his brother and his sister.  Montie was preceded in death by his parents and several siblings.

Graveside services will be held at a later date this year at the Rock Island National Cemetery where military honors will be provided in honor of his service to his country.
