Obituary of Milan "Mick" Schulte

Milan L “Mick” Schulte, age 85, of Oxford died peacefully at his home surrounded by family and his loving, devoted wife, Helen, on Tuesday, February 3, 2026.

A memorial mass will be held at 11am on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oxford, where a time of visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4 to 7pm.  A parish rosary will be recited at 3:30 pm just prior to the start of the visitation.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Mick’s honor to Mercy Hospice of Hiawatha, Iowa. Milan Louis Schulte was born on February 9, 1940, Norway, Iowa.  The son of Mathias Joseph Schulte & Elizabeth (Galligan) Schulte, one of 7 children.  He lived in Norway until his marriage to Helen (Kutcher) Schulte on December 28, 1961, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oxford.  They’d just celebrated their 64th anniversary.  Following their marriage they moved to Oxford.  He worked very hard to raise his 7 children with Helen.  When they were married, he worked at Amana Refrigeration, then spent the next 12 years working on farms in eastern Iowa.  Next, he worked for the City of Iowa City.  Then he became self-employed driving truck and collecting and recycling metal. In his heart he was always a farmer.  He loved to watch things grow – whether it be corn, beans, hay, cattle, pigs, chickens, goats, vegetables in their garden or the many birds that visited their feeders.

His family includes his wife, Helen; their children, Pam Schulte-Wagner (Martin), Deb Olson (Dave), Tony Schulte (Kim), Dennis Schulte (Janel), Denise Grell (Wayne), Ted Schulte, Willy Schulte (George); 15 grandchildren: Terran, Drew, Jessi, Chris, Rebecca, Adam, Lindsay, Tyler, Coltyn, Allie, Orie, Dalton, Callee, Stone, Ashley. 15 great grandchildren: Carson, Della, Everlee, Ryan, Leni, Halle, Holdyn, Elena, Maddux, Graylyn, Remi, Lilly, Violet, Asher, Ella. 1 brother: Jim Schulte (Ricki), 3 sisters: Jean O’Brien, Joyce Bickford, Liz Bos. 1 sister-in-law: Kathy Tandy (Gomer). 

Mick was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, 5 brothers-in-law, 3 sisters-in-law, 1 grandchild, 1 great grandchild and his best friend Duncan.
