Obituary of Dorothy May Bain

Dorothy May (Keierleber) Bain, age 86, passed away Saturday, February 14, 2026. 

Memorial services will be held at 1 pm, Saturday, February 28, 2026 at the Bettendorf Presbyterian Church in Bettendorf, Iowa.  A private burial will be held prior to the service at Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City.  Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is taking care of services along with Pastor Troy Winder.  To share a thought, memory or condolence for her family please visit Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service website @ www.gayandciha.com.

Dorothy May Keierleber was born May 15, 1939 to Arthur and Ainslie (Sheldon) Keierleber.  She graduated from Aurora High School in Aurora, Illinois and pursued her teaching degree from Aurora College.  During her time at Aurora College she enjoyed traveling with the college choir.  She met her true love Gerald “Jerry” Bain at college.  They were married on August 11, 1962. 

Dorothy taught school for over 20 years.  Jerry’s job took the family to several states, but Dorothy made lasting friendships wherever she went.  Whether she was cookie chairman for girl scouts, bowling, golfing, playing bridge, PEO sister, Presbyterian Women of the year, cookie walk coordinator, just to name a few. Dorothy loved to be active.

Faith, Family and Friends were the essence of Dorothy’s life.  She touched so many through her genuine compassion and positivity.  Left to honor her memory is brothers, David Keierleber, Dan (Gay) Keierleber; sister-in-laws, Kim Keierleber, Nancy Bain, Suzy Petkus, Jan Labate;  children Julie (Mike) McCreary, Jon (Karen) Bain; grandchildren Adam (Kendra) Simpson, Ryan (Kenzie) Simpson, Katie (Christian) Kalafut and Paige Bain.  As well as great-granddaughter Ave Kalafut, step grandchildren Kasey (Cody) Driscoll, Molly (Joe) Tafta with great grandchildren Kennedy  and Kinsley Driscoll, Brynlee and Benedict Tafta.  Many special nieces and nephew.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters, Pauline and Barbara along with her brothers, Bill and Steve.
