Condolences
I worked with Barb at Mercy Hospital Iowa City.l She ran a tight ship with kindness and humor. I I agine she was greeted in heaven with " well done thou good and faithful servant"
My thoughts and prayers are with all of you. May warm memories get you through this difficult time. I was so blessed to work with Barb back in my Mercy days. She was an amazing person and nurse. I'll always remember the amazing night shift potlucks we had during the Christmas season. Barb always provided the majority of the food. One year I was busy in the nursery and couldn't make it down to the cafeteria. Barb was so sweet, she brought me a plate of food and put my name in the drawing for a flower table arrangement. Later that night, she brought me the arrangement saying I had won. I didn't even know about the drawing. Barb always took such good care of our night shift. She was the first one to jump in if we were drowning and was always there for us. She was truly one of a kind and I'm a better nurse and person because of her leadership.
My sincere condolences to the family!! Fond memories of them was riding the church bus and all the fun we had. She was the sweetest lady, loved the Lord.. accepted everybody.. She will be deeply missed. I last saw Barb with Monica at Walmart with my 2 younger daughter. I spotted Monica and I said," where's grandma"?? I saw her and I asked Barb if she remembered me and she said," of course" we chatted for over 40 mins and I gave her a bunch of hugs and told her I loved her. I can't wait to see you in Heaven and I'm glad your no longer suffering and are reunited with Brother Charlie. Peace be with you and God is so good!! Love you Miss Barb...
I worked with Barb for years at Mercy. She was very level headed , pragmatic and had a wonderful and dry sense of humor. She was not a "clipboard" nursing supervisor. She rolled up her sleeves! We were also in a couple of hilarious dog "obedience" classes together. Those great danes!!! We laughed so hard. I feel grateful to have known her. Blessings to you all, Jean Bullard
Dear Family of Barb,
I worked my first years at Mercy during the nite with Barb in the ER. She was always eager to help me figure things out. I always felt her being non judgmental and as willing as possible to help me out. It was always inspiring to feel her faith and freely give it back to her. She is a beautiful spirit now watching over us and sending strength and peace.
May you feel her presence always and be thankful!
In Christ’s love,
Joellen Megan
I still can’t wrap my head around the enormous void she has left but I’m so thankful that my mom is no longer suffering. Barbara Freyermuth is reunited with her parents, my dad and so many other loved ones but most of all she’s with her savior.
I was a nine years old when I met her and it didn’t take long before I asked if I could call her mom. I was so happy when she and my dad married. I was always fascinated with nurses and she was my real life role model. I love talking nursing with her and she loved talking nursing with me, much to the rest of our families dismay. IYKYK nurses.
She loved me with a fierce love and saw the best in me when I wasn’t very lovable. Even though I moved 500 miles away after college, anytime I needed her she never hesitated to drop what she was doing and come to my rescue. She would fill my refrigerator and pantry, make delicious pies and spoil the grandkids. Anytime I buy things for my kids or grandkids, I think of her and how she loved to be so generous with all of her family.
It has been precious to watch long time friends faithfully come to visit her day after day. It makes me want to be the kind of person that she was.
I love you, mom. Give dad a kiss for me and I’ll see you again.
I met Barb many MANY years ago, she was a night shift supervisor at Mercy Hospital and I was a relatively newer nurse, just starting at Mercy in the NICU. She was ALWAYS available to answer questions and offer assistance. My sympathies to her family and friends. It was an honor to work with her for nearly 20 years.

Dear Beloveds of Barb, What a lovely photo and written tribute. As one of the many nurses Barb supervised at Mercy, I am grateful for her nursing guidance, common sense and patient focus. Barb loved her family beyond measure and there were many stories of driving children to events, school and church projects and family fun. Also, she often talked about visits to Muscatine's Weed Park Zoo, Never dull being around Barb. I was lucky to be invited to a breakfast group that she was a part of after our Mercy days. My condolences to all .
