Obituary of Monica Swift-Mullen

Monica Denise Swift-Mullen, age 51 of Iowa City was laid to rest Thursday, April 16, 2026, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa.

Monica was born April 28, 1974, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Albert and Sandra (Harmon) Swift.  Monica moved to Iowa City in 2003 with her 3 children, she was united in marriage to Rayle Mullen on May 5, 2008.

Her family includes her husband, Rayle; three children, David Swift (Alice Swift), Andre Price (Devian Hughes), and Ke`Asia Mullen; seven grandchildren; Daesha, Tyrell, Jamisyn, Avery, Vindrix, Amani, Andre IV and her two sisters, Yolanda George, Carla Booth, and many nieces, nephews, friends, and many more who will cherish her memory forever.

Her presence was a blessing to everyone who knew her, and her memory will live on in our hearts.

Monica was a strong, loving, and caring woman who dedicated her life to her family. She had a warm spirit, a beautiful soul, and a way of making people feel seen, heard, and valued. Whether through her words, her laughter, or her quiet strength, she left a lasting impact on those around her.

Monica will be remembered for her kindness, her smile, and the love she gave so freely. Though she is no longer with us physically, her spirit will continue to guide and watch over her family.

There was never a dull moment when she was around, she loved to laugh and nothing was off limits. If you knew her then that is one fact you knew very well and she always had a story to tell. If she had it to give it was yours no matter if it was her last. Her favorite thing to do was turn her music on and she would sing to every song (and make up her own words for the ones she didn't know). She would try all kinds of foods but if she didn't like something you knew all about it.

Services celebrating Monica’s life will be held from Noon to 4 pm, 4/25/2026 at Wetherby Park in Iowa City, IA
