Obituary of James Valencia

James A. Valencia (Jimi), age 48, passed away suddenly on April 21st, 2026. He was born on  August 9th, 1977 in Joliet, IL to Jose Valencia and Kathleen Frey.

 

Jimi will always be remembered for his selfless heart and dedication to helping others using the skills he gained as a member of the Chicago Carpenters Union. 

 

He found his greatest peace outdoors, especially as an avid fisherman. Enjoying simple pleasures, he was also a basketball enthusiast and a passionate Chicago Bears and Chicago White Sox fan. Additionally, Jimi was a talented harmonica player who loved attending the Chicago Blues Fest.

 

Jimi loved sharing stories and had a special gift for making others laugh, bringing comfort and happiness to those around him.

 

He is survived by his children Destinie Drapeau and Hunter Bingham, his mother Kathleen Frey, stepmother Cyndi Valencia, siblings William (Megan) Valencia, Mary Beth (Mohammed Ahamed) Valencia, Jonquil (Larry) Chason, Robert Valencia, Stephanie (Michael) Heneghan, and cousin Cyndi (Jim) Menietti, as well as several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father Jose W. Valencia.

 

In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Shelter House in Iowa City or your choice of charitable organization in his memory would be appreciated.

 

Private family services will be held with burial in Romeoville, Illinois.
