Obituary of Eddie James Walker Sr.
Eddie James Walker Sr. was born on October 3, 1939, to the late JT Walker and Frances Walker in West Point, Mississippi. He was the second oldest of five brothers and one sister. Eddie was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, JT Jr., James, and John Henry; three children, Belinda, Rodney, and Andre; and two grandchildren, Marteal and Destiny.
Eddie was born and raised in West Point, Mississippi, where he attended school and accepted Christ at an early age. As a teenager, Eddie longed for the excitement of the big city, so he decided to take his dreams on the road alongside his brothers.
The roads from West Point eventually led Eddie to his family’s home in Rock Island, Illinois, before relocating to Chicago, Illinois. The blues ran through Eddie’s soul. After leaving Mississippi in pursuit of bigger dreams, his love for music led him to Chicago, where he hoped to sing alongside his brother, cousins, and legendary blues artist Muddy Waters. Music was more than something Eddie listened to — it was something he lived, carried, and shared with everyone around him.
It was there that he met the love of his life, Geneva Robertson. The two fell deeply in love and were united in holy matrimony on May 5, 1962.
To this union, seven children were born, and together Eddie and Geneva built a beautiful life. In the beginning, they lived in Chicago before relocating to Detroit, Michigan, where Eddie worked for General Motors. In 1975, the family moved back to Chicago, where they settled and raised their children. After returning to Chicago, Eddie worked for Conrail Railroad before eventually landing a position with one of the largest companies in the world, Nabisco. Eddie dedicated over 20 years to Nabisco before retiring in 2002.
After retirement, Eddie became even more full of life, and during that time, a new nickname was born. Eddie was excited to finally enjoy the fruits of his hard work. He would proudly tell his children, grandchildren, and loved ones, “I'm a pimp now — all I'm going to do is rest and dress,” and that is exactly what he did. He enjoyed life surrounded by the beautiful family he created with his wife and the many loved ones they shared together.
Eddie was the kind of man whose love changed generations. He was not only a father to his own children, but also a father figure to many of his nieces and nephews. His wisdom, humor, strength, and love left an unforgettable mark on everyone blessed to know him.
After what the family jokingly called a “two-day extensive argument and talk with God,” Eddie was peacefully called home at 1:56 a.m. on Sunday, May 17, 2026, in the comfort of his home.
Although he will be greatly missed, Eddie lived a beautiful and full life for 86 years. He instilled pieces of his wisdom, humor, style, and love into everyone he encountered. It was finally time for OUR Pimp to get his rest.
Eddie leaves to cherish his memory: his devoted wife, Geneva Walker; his daughters, Monyetta (Eugene) and Geneva; his sons, Eddie Jr. and Marcus; his brother, Undrea; his sister, Eloise; his grandchildren, Clifton, Antonio, Diandra (Robert), Frankie, Deondre, Andre, Monyetta, Frank, Keimone, Elijah, and Yvonne; 21 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 am, Friday, May 29, 2026 at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service with a time of visitation from 9 am until the time of Eddie’s funeral.
