Obituary of Richard Green
Richard (Rich) Scott Green, passed away peacefully on October 26, 2025 , in San Ramon, CA.
He was born on August 9, 1945, to Harry and Mary (nee Scott) Green in Charles City, Iowa, where he grew up and attended public schools. In 1963, he enrolled at Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, Iowa and graduated in 1967 with a degree in geology. He did graduate work at the University of Iowa and received a master's degree in library science in 1968 and began a long career with the University of Iowa Libraries. He was a map librarian for over 20 years and subsequently worked in various other capacities within the library system, retiring in 2008.
Rich was an Eagle Scout and a 44-year member of the Barbershop Harmony Society. He was known to many in Iowa City from his work with tilling gardens over the years.
He leaves behind many friends and family. He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his son, Jeffrey Green, of Austin, Texas, his daughter, Laura (Michael) Steinbeck of Danville, California, his daughter, Amy Green, of Iowa City, six grandchildren, a sister, Maryanna (Edward) Miller of Edina, Minnesota, a brother, Charles (Barb)of Edina, Minnesota and a brother, Thomas (Luz), of Overland Park, Kansas.
