Obituary of Amy J. Heumphreus

Amy Jo Heumphreus, 59, of Coralville, Iowa, passed away on June 25th, 2026, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, surrounded by the love of her family.

Amy was born in Iowa City on July 9, 1966, the daughter of Peter and Jean Van Beek. Amy lived a life defined by selflessness, resilience, and an unwavering affection for others. She began her career with McCabe Equipment before finding her true calling at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, where she faithfully served for more than 20 years in the Mother Baby Unit. She took great pride in her work and was known for putting patients first, always offering kindness, respect, and comfort to those in her care. Amy loved deeply. She cared for people in a way that came naturally to her—whether they were family, friends, coworkers, or patients.

Beyond her profession, Amy was a fiercely loving and protective mother, devoted wife, cherished daughter, and loyal friend. Her family was the center of her world, and she found happiness in life’s simplest moments—listening to music, playing games, cooking meals for loved ones, planting flowers, and laughing until she cried. To Amy, even the smallest moments often became lasting memories. She deeply treasured these memories, held her loved ones close, and believed there was always a reason to bring someone joy. Whether through a warm meal, a thoughtful conversation, or simply being present when someone needed her. Her greatest gift was the love she freely gave to everyone around her.

Her family includes her husband, Scott; their children, Shelby and Curtis Heumphreus; several beloved cousins and other members of her extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sons, Morgan and Riley; and brothers, Jody and P.J. Van Beek.

Amy’s legacy is one of kindness, compassion, perseverance, and unconditional love.  She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her, and her memory will live on in the countless lives she touched.
