Obituary of Janet M. Edmonds

Janet M. Edmonds, age 88 of Iowa City died Saturday, June 27, 2026.

A time for family and friends to gather remembering this feisty, crap talking, no nonsense tough gal will be held from 9 to 11am Thursday, July 2, 2026, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service, followed by a graveside service at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Janet Marie White was born October 4, 1937, in Stuart, Iowa the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Ruth) White.  Her family moved to Iowa City where she attended schools, graduating from City High School with the Class of 1955.  She married Arthur Carl Kloos in 1957, and later married Robert Edmonds in 1992.  She has basically lived in the Iowa City area most of her life, working here most recently for the University of Iowa in Graphics Services.  She moved to Cedar Rapids in 1992 when she married Bob Edmonds, but returned to Iowa City after his death in 2015.

Jan enjoyed her memberships in the American Legion Auxiliary, Moose Lodge and the Eagles. She loved her family, friends, going out to eat, reading, doing word search.  When her children were young, their house was the neighborhood house where all the kids gathered, Jan was the “Fun Mom” to many in the neighborhood, and to her own kids! (ie: dancing in the dining room, roller skating, Chinese Fire Drills!).  The “Fun Mom” had a different meaning as the years passed, this lady who in her own words would describe herself as “Fat & Sassy”.  She was fiercely independent, opinionated,  contradictive,  gregarious, larger than life  type of person and one that was just fine with it!

Her family includes her three daughters, Becky Nixon, Gina Kloos, and Kathy Kloos; 3 grandchildren, Romara Montgomery, Coady Kloos, and Gregory Nixon; 1 great-granddaughter, Raenique Diaz.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, son, Tom Kloos; granddaughter., Raejean Nixon; sister, Kay Ciha and brother, Jim White.
