It is with broken hearts and profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Nathan Blake Jackson, age 39, of Davenport, Iowa, on July 17, 2026 from a tragic car accident. Nathan left this world far too soon, and his loss is deeply felt by all who knew and loved him.

Nathan was born on May 22, 1987, in Clinton, Iowa, to Andrea Crane and James Jackson. Over the course of his life, he lived in Bettendorf, Iowa; Walton, New York; Battle Creek, Michigan; and Gurnee, Illinois, where he graduated from Warren Township High School. He later attended the University of Iowa for three years. Nathan eventually moved to Tucson, Arizona, to be near his brother Travis and his family, and most recently made his home in Davenport, Iowa, where he worked with his friend Adam Peters on his campaign for Iowa House of Representatives. His most recent role was as a Field Organizer for the Iowa Democratic Party of Clinton, Iowa.

Nathan spent much of his early working life in hospitality, most often as a server and bartender, roles that suited his intelligence, humor, and gift for connecting with people. He had a quick wit and an infectious laugh that could light up a room. He was known for his hilarious impersonations, his sharp sense of humor, and his ability to make people feel at ease. Nathan was endlessly curious and deeply knowledgeable, a true Renaissance man who could speak on countless subjects with insight and passion. He loved studying languages and cultures.

More than anything, Nathan cared deeply about people. He had a strong sense of justice and a genuine commitment to social causes and progressive values. He believed in standing up for others, speaking out for what was right, and working toward a kinder, more equitable world. That passion was not just part of what he believed — it was part of who he was.

Nate is deeply loved and will be forever missed by his mother, Andrea Crane, and her husband, Jay; his father, James Jackson, and wife, Karen; his younger brother, Travis, and sister-in-law, Rebekah; his niece, Lennon; his nephew, Bodhi; and his grandfather, David Johnson. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, dear friends, and colleagues whose lives were made brighter by knowing him. The entire Jackson clan is so grateful for the special time we just spent with him at a family reunion in Colorado in June.

A celebration of Nathan’s life will be held on Saturday, August 1, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Putnam Museum and Science Center, 1717 West Twelfth Street, Davenport, Iowa.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Niabi Zoo in Nathan’s name.
