Obituary of Douglas Braun
Douglas L. Braun, age 64 of West Branch, passed away on Tuesday, July 28, 2026 at his home.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, August 15, 2026 at Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service. Visitation will be held from noon until 2:00 P.M. on Saturday at the funeral home. A reception and time of fellowship will be held after the service for those who wish to attend. Burial will be in the Muscatine Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date.
Born on August 30, 1961 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, Doug was the son of Virgil and Donna (Owen) Braun. He graduated from West Liberty High School in 1979 and attended Kirkwood Community College for welding.
Doug was united in marriage to Cindy Kurth on August 17, 1985 at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Iowa City. He grew up farming alongside his Grandpa Owen, whom he adored and learned from. Doug went on to work for Proctor and Gamble for 20 years.
He enjoyed golfing and following the Iowa Hawkeyes Men’s basketball and football. Doug liked to spend time outdoors planting new flowers and playing with his granddaughter Lilianna. In his free time, he could be found watching old Westerns, documentaries about the World Wars, or a James Bond movie. He had a special love for Mexican and Italian cuisine.
Doug’s family includes his wife, Cindy Braun of West Branch; his daughers, Courtney (Josh) Evans of West Branch and Breanna (Jacob) Toole of Orange City; his grandchildren, Lilanna Evans and J.J. Toole; his mother, Donna Braun of Hills; siblings: Teresa (John) Kessler, Victor Braun, and Rita Gerot; and nieces and nephews: Josh Braun, Heather Labath, Ashley Wolfe, Kelsey Barnes, and Matthew Gerot.
He was preceded in death by three infant sons: Chad, Michael, and Cory; his father, Virgil; and his grandparents.
