Obituary of William A. Templin
William Bill Arthur Templin, age 58 of North Liberty died Friday, April 1, 2005, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City following an extended illness. Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Sunday, April 10, 2005, at the St. Patricks Catholic Cemetery in Georgetown, Iowa. No visitation is planned, cremation services were provided by Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service of Iowa City. A memorial fund has been established. Bill was born June 26, 1946, in Muscatine, Iowa being adopted only hours after his birth by Paul and Frances (Cole) Templin. He graduated from Hayes Catholic High School in Muscatine in 1964, the same year he attained the rank of Eagle in the Boy Scouts of America. Bill obtained a degree in Elementary Education from Northeast Missouri State University and taught in the Clear Creek Schools during the 1970s. He was Chief Operating Engineer at the University of Iowa Power Plant when illness forced his retirement in 1989. He married Susan Marie Kelly on June 21, 1969, in Albia, Iowa. Together they moved to North Liberty where they raised three children, Kelly (Greg) Butcher, Mary Beth (Andy) McNabb, and Kyle (Christanna)Templin. Bill was a member of the Iowa City Amateur Radio Club. KA0DYI could frequently be heard conversing with fellow Hams on their 2-meter airways. Lefty (Golden Retriever) and Cleo and Sunny (Bassett Hounds) were his constant companions and source of delight.
