Obituary of Agda E. Alt
Agda R. Alt, age 91 of rural North Liberty died Monday, June 13, 2005, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City following a short illness. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday at the North Liberty United Methodist Church with the Reverend Alicia Williams officiating. Burial will be at the Ridgewood Cemetery in North Liberty. Visitation will be from 4 to 8pm Wednesday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City, and after 9am Thursday at the church. Memorial donations can be made in Agdas memory to Pathways, or the Handbell Choir or Memory Garden of the North Liberty Methodist Church. Agda Rose Eldeen Alt was born September 27, 1913, in Hitchcock, SD, the daughter of Charles and Alta (Lamphere) Eldeen. On September 18, 1936, she married Joseph Abner Alt in North Liberty. Since their marriage, Agda and Joe farmed near North Liberty. For a number of years Agda worked as a switchboard operator for North Liberty Mutual Telephone, later becoming South Slope Telephone. Here she retired as a secretary in the North Liberty office. She has been a longtime active member of the North Liberty Methodist Church, where she was a communion steward for many years, strong supporter of the handbell choir, and United Methodist Women. Agda was also a member of the Whip- Poor-Will Club, and treasured her friends at Regina and at Pathways. She enjoyed cooking, baking, doing needlework and crafts, collecting cardinals, and tending to her garden. However, the most important part of her life was her family; she loved being mom, grandma, great-grandma, sister and wife. Christmas and the Fourth of July with the family was always the highlight of the year. Her family includes her children, Elizabeth Utzig of Cadiz, KY, George Alt and his wife, Donna of West Liberty, IA, Robert Alt and his wife, Jane of Clinton, IA, and Joan Belknap and her husband, Randy of North Liberty; grandchildren, Teresa Swenson and her husband, Robert, John Utzig, Jane Ameur, Michael Utzig, Steven Alt and his wife, Sandra, Larry Alt and his wife, Angie, Tony Alt, Melissa Schnoebelen and her husband, Tom, Jason Alt, Brian Alt and his wife, Jess, Rae Ann Fedderson and her husband, Damen, and Addie Alt and Emily Frascaroli and her husband, Stefano; great-grandchildren, Nathan, Whitney, Ethan, Noah, Summer, Angela, Cale, Megan, Joey, Kolbe, and Monique; sister, Nina Wager, brother, Richard Eldeen; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Arthur Alt, son-in-law, LeRoy Utzig, eight brothers, and two sisters.
